A lawyer will not get them dropped. He may get them reduced a bit if you’re extremely lucky, but after paying attorney fees and the fines your wallet will be much lighter than if you just pay them yourself. Judges have the discretion to cut you slack and they do it more often than you might imagine.
Better off saving money on attorney. Handle it yourself. Alot of courts will make payment arrangements with you and may even reinstate your license for to and from work or school only. Courts are in the business of rehabilitation not punishing you till your a dried up turnip! Schedule appointment to see judge, bring proof or evidence of your injury and job loss. Sell yourself to him/her and show you have a current job or school program etc. this will show your on right track and it may reduce your fine and get on a payment plan. Good luck!
I’m an attorney and I have never had a traffic case in which the judge will not offer a payment plan. I think the answer that told you to bring proof of income and your current medical condition was exactly right. I think that was a great answer and I’m chiming in only to let you know you can do this yourself as easily as an attorney can do it for you.
You know what? You have some good answers but I would advise you to call an attorney that handles this type of case. The reason being, you could do it yourself but it IS stressful to go to court especially not knowing what will transpire. It sounds like you are very worried but things will get better for you. Everyone goes through times like this. It will pass…A good attorney will give you a lot of comfort ….that’s part of their job.
The State Bar in your state will give you the name of an attorney that will give you a consultation for free or a small fee. Let the atty know you got his name from the State Bar. The number is in your telephone book and it is usually an 800 number so there would be no charge for the call.
You can make a decision to have an attorney or have some instructions on what to say in court.
You can call Legal Aide in your county too. They will provide you an attorney for free.
In any event, don’t let this get you down! Get yourself a bike to ride if you don’t have any transportation..so you won’t have to walk.
That’s cool that people are able to receive the loan and this opens completely new opportunities.
