Does Anyone Know What To Do With A Ny Speeding Ticket? Do I Need A Ny Traffic Lawyer?

I received a New York traffic ticket. It was a speeding ticket. I want to fight it but I am not sure what my options are. I was wondering if anyone had any advice and if anyone had any success using one of the traffic ticket attorneys that advertise online.

I actually had 2 speeding tickets in NY within the last year or so. One was upstate NY (Broome County) and one was in New York City. I fought the first one by myself and I don’t think I did a very good job. The next one I tried doing a little more research and I found tickethelp.com online. They are NY lawyers (Feifer & Greenberg) and it was really worth it. The fee was reasonable and my ticket was dismissed. I am not sure where you got your ticket but you should at least talk to them –they explained to me that there are different types of courts that handle tickets different ways. I’m still paying for the first ticket (insurance!) so be careful. Good luck.
Pay it, then dont speed in NY again.
Bad advice to just pay it. Most of the time paying the $150 or so it will take to have an attorney fight it or negotiate a better result will end up saving you in the long run. Pleading guilty will end up in a 4-5 point speeding violation, and may cost you 40 or 50 bucks per month for the next 3 years in increased insurance premiums (do the math). I don’t know where you got the ticket, but a lot of DAs and Courts in NY will reduce speeding tickets under 20 MPH over the speed limit to a violation of VTL 1110(a) — Failure to obey a traffic control device. 2 points on your license, non-speeding violation, and overlooked by most insurance cos. But call a local attorney that is familiar with the Town, Village or City that you will appear in. They will know best.
Just pay the damn thing. You won’t win, and will spend twice as much money and have to pay it anyway..
An attorney must be registered by by the New York State Bar in order to defend some one in court.
Better off contacting the Bar association of which the the summons was written and ask for the name of several a traffic lawyers.
